The Might Muller Girls

We were so honored to have been a part of the 1st Annual San Antonio Children’s Tumor Foundation NF Walk this past weekend.  I can’t begin to tell you what a great turnout the event was.  We had so much fun raising awareness for Neurofibromatosis (NF), a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. Months ago when Sam and I photographed the sweetest little triplets at their bluebonnet session, we did not know about NF.  It wasn’t until months later that I would talk to Kerry, their mother and amazing organizer of the NF Walk about another session when she told us about the walk and how her girls (The Mighty Muller Girls) were in remission.  Sam and I wanted to help in any way we could and were happy to donate a Holiday Card Session to one of the raffle baskets. I was crossing my fingers for the Playdate basket which had all awesome goodies like passes to the San Antonio Zoo and Morgan’s Wonderland!  Then to our surprise, Sam actually won us the Date Night basket, which we were pretty excited about! It was a beautiful morning and just a perfect day in San Antonio to have a 2 mile awareness walk.

That 2 mile walk was no joke either, I was quickly reminded how out of shape I am (so excuse some of my not so perfect photos- as I was trying to photograph as I tried to keep up with everyone-lol).  There was actually a point in the walk where I thought to myself- ok I think I’m good I need to turn around (“we do have a wedding to shoot later on this afternoon”- was the excuse I gave myself) but then as soon as I let myself hear my excuse- I actually heard a voice behind me say “I’m almost there- I’m hurting but I’m not quitting” I just about cried. I turned and see a woman just smiling and walking past me, her name was Yazmin and she is a NF Hero.  I walked up ahead, snapped her photo and said “I was about to turn around and I heard you, so you kept me going”.  We chatted a bit and when we made it to the top- I was a sweaty mess but was happy to snap photos of my new friend with her family who was cheering her on!  I met so many incredible sweet and humble people that morning and I even bumped into old friends who I hadn’t seen in awhile! It was just an amazing event.  Kerry did an incredible job of putting it all together.  She is one of sweetest moms I know and everyone I met said the same exact thing.  There was so much food (including Starbucks coffee, tacos, Chic Fil A and so much more) and a ton of amazing activities for the kids. Thank you to Jody’s Magic Balloons and the clown with the amazing LongHorn Steakhouse, who made my son several sword balloons and hats throughout the morning (he somehow kept popping them). I think my sons favorite was the appearance of The Batman of San Antonio and his friends– he was pretty star struck.  There were so many people who helped make the event a huge success and I could be here all day listing everyone, (so sorry if I left you out) but just know that everyone in the community coming together made it a day to remember. Kerry, you are such an inspiration and our hope is to continue to raise awareness throughout the year and wish you an even bigger success for next year’s NF WALK 2017.

Keep checking on the blog for the photos of the winners of our Family Holiday Card Session! We are so excited to get to get in touch and photograph them soon!

(Although Kenzo Entertainment was the official photographer and DJ service for this event, y’all know I never leave my house without my camera so here are a few of my favorites that I took from the day!)
