“A girl should be two things; Who and what she wants.” -Coco Chanel. This is what came to mind when we met Janell. This beautiful young lady knew exactly what she wanted. She had a vision and we were so happy that we were able to help bring it to life.
She impressed us with how detail oriented she was at just 16 years old. From her matching headpiece and nails to doing her very own makeup. That alone was pretty impressive since I’m in my 30’s and still am trying to figure out how to do my makeup -lol! Her hair was done by the lovely Ana from Hair and Makeup by Ana, even Ana mentioned that this young lady knew exactly how she wanted her hair done and was very specific, we were so glad that Ana was able to help her with that as well. We had so much fun photographing Janell at Hemisfair Park and The Tower of the Americas for her 16th birthday.
Janell’s mom was so sweet, the way she looks at her daughter with such proud and loving eyes almost brought me to tears. I can’t imagine what she was feeling that day, seeing her little girl growing up into such a lovely young lady. I know that I will be there one day with my son as well and I don’t think that there’s anything a mother can do to prepare for those days. Believe me, I constantly search for the pause button in life as my baby boy grows. Documenting this age is so important, so many things I don’t remember -lol! I’m so glad that I loved photography as a teenager and took lots of photos to remind me of my teen years because it’s so much fun to look back at those now that I’m much older. I didn’t have professional photos taken until my Senior year in high school -but I wish I had because I think it would have been so much fun. I wish we were able to photograph more tweens, I think that the ages that we rarely photograph are tweens (ages 12-16) but those are some of my favorite because these kids have such big personalities and already have big dreams. I am especially happy when they share their future goals and dreams with us. Yes, at this age they already have so many things they want to accomplish. These kids never cease to amaze me and the smiles on their faces (and parents tears) when they see their photos for the first time is priceless. That is the best part of our job- the part that makes work not feel like work at all, and we are so grateful for that. Happy Birthday, Janell!
