The best compliment I can receive is that of a happy parent saying that they love the way their children came out in our photos. It’s not an easy task most of the time and 98% of the time, kids hate getting their picture taken. Especially my son – you would think he’d be used to it by now but he is the most difficult child I have ever photographed (don’t even get me started on his birthday sessions).
So I know its January and I am super late in posting but we wanted to share some of our favorites from this past holiday season. Better late than never, am I right? This past holiday season we learned that TWO was the magic age that had us on our toes! Despite some meltdowns and tears, we had lots of fun photographing all these little ones and their families. The trick is to find that one thing that will make them crack up and just go with the flow. That is one benefit of choosing us as your photographers; there are two of us! We like to take the pressure off the parents, we want them to enjoy this moment as much as the children. We also always try to get shots of parents alone without the kids. This is a good break time for the kids and some good alone time for the parents. If you are a parent, you know 5 minutes of alone time is like gold. Sam and I work great as a team. Sam is a lot better at getting the kids posed, comfortable and laughing and I am more of a smile chaser. He’s just a natural with the kids. Me on the other hand, I have to work a little harder. I will run after these kids, bump into things, roll on the ground in order to get the most natural looking smile. I will do whatever it takes to get these little ones happy. I love candid, uncooperative shots the best, though occasional smiling happy ones are always welcome. I even had to bonk myself in the head a few times with a toy rattle in one session, I left with a small headache, but a cute little laugh was totally worth it! I think not going to the gym in December was balanced out by chasing kids at sessions and pulling a giant sled around. That’s my story (ahem–excuse) and I’m sticking to it.
Christmas is my most favorite time of the year and photographing families and children was a blast! We were even honored this past holiday season to have been chosen to photograph a special Christmas pregnancy announcement and we had return clients come back for a session from Austin. We are already planning our setup for next year’s holiday sessions. I did not expect it to get so busy so fast, so next year we are going to be starting them as early as the 1st week of November! I’m not sure how long I can keep my ideas for 2016 a surprise (I am not good at keeping my ideas a surprise) but I am really going to try because I want every one of our clients to get a unique and special session. That is our goal at every session. We plan out our sessions weeks in advance, we like to make every single client feel special and we like to plan out unique shots that will make it fun and memorable for everyone. This is another reason we encourage buying prints. I want you to pass by your wall art in your home and smile, I want you to see your photo and think back and say “wow that was such a great day”.
I miss Christmas so much already, but now on to the next fun holiday. Valentine’s Day will be here before we know it! Yes, I said it- only one more month until Valentine’s Day. We are already scheduling cute love themed sessions and are so excited. Hope you all love the photos as much as we do!
