We are so excited to finally announce that Anne and Ernie are ENGAGED! We couldn’t be happier to have been a part of Ernie and Anne’s special day! Ernie is such a romantic, he planned everything so carefully and knew that this was a moment he wanted to remember forever (that’s where we come in). He mentioned that he and Anne had their first date at Supper, a restaurant connected to the gorgeous Hotel Emma, and that is one of the locations he might want to propose. The other choice was Lick Honest Ice Cream a few feet away. A few days before the big day, Sam and I went to both locations and took photos for Ernie, and he decided he was going to propose at the ice cream shop – I was totally excited! If you know me, one of my favorite things is ice cream and an ice cream shop proposal was definitely on my photography bucket list (I had already crossed out the ice cream shop baby shower last summer)! We talked to the girls at Lick about it and they were so nice and even helped us keep it a surprise. We worked on the details together for the perfect surprise and the perfect photos. This was (literally) the sweetest proposal ever!
While Ernie and Anne began their dinner at the Boiler House (eating at Supper would have been way too obvious), Sam and I were getting in position at Lick. When we got the text from Ernie that they were coming, we were ready. I’m not sure who was more nervous- me or Ernie! Sam says me -lol! As soon as I saw them coming down the walkway I pretended to be a tourist with a camera while Sam was in position inside. We were so lucky that the back corner was empty just for them. I was so happy that Ernie had trusted us on the time, positioning and all those little details (for example ordering cones instead of cups)! I pictured that photo of Anne with her ice cream cone and engagement ring as soon as Ernie said ICE CREAM! A lot goes into planning the perfect proposal and Ernie was already a step ahead- he just knew it had to be perfect for Anne and it absolutely was. The surprise on her face and tears in her eyes say it all. After she said yes and discovered us taking photos it was just non-stop smiles from there. We also did a mini engagement session for them after and they were so much fun. We loved hearing all about their first date – that actually lasted about 12 hours! They told us all about their entire day at The Pearl and how they just were meeting for lunch and ended up there all day just talking and enjoying a beautiful day with great company! It was so romantic. And since we were already at the Pearl and one of my favorite things to do is re-create memories- I thought, why not take photos at all the places they were at on their first date! Anne showed us the table just outside Supper where they sat and talked for hours, the little spot just outside Barkery Lorraine, and where they first laid eyes on each other- right outside Local Coffee (we even recreated that scene). Ernie stood under the coffee cup sign and Anne showed us where she stood when she first met Ernie, you could see the love in her eyes and in Ernie’s smile as they told us the story of how they met. I was in awe. They truly are meant for each other.
So if you are getting ready to propose to your one and only and want to have those memories captured forever in beautiful portraits, call us. We would love to help with all those little details. If you decide to just do it and have a friend hiding in the bushes, here are a few tips:
- if planning to do it outdoors, later in the evening is better than during the day
- try a shaded area if it’s sunny (we want her to see the ring and not be squinting because the sun is in her face)
- plan your route days ahead of time
- if you plan on getting down on your knee, make sure you are down for at least 10-15 seconds (it may seem like forever but this is the shot you don’t want your photographer to miss, so take your time)
- a good time to do it is just after she’s had her nails done or hair done (remember-she hasn’t had time to plan for this because it’s a surprise but you can plan around her 🙂
If you need any more tips feel free to contact us, we are always willing to help!
We were so honored to have been able to been part of Ernie and Anne’s engagement and loved hearing their love story. We can’t wait to hear all about the wedding they are planning in Anne’s hometown of New Orleans, later this year! It’s going to be amazing. These two were just a dream to photograph. Sam and I are happy to have met them and call them our new friends!
