Go Roadrunners! I can’t believe how much UTSA has grown since I graduated back in 2009, I almost felt like I was lost for a while. I’m kinda glad that the school wasn’t as beautiful when I graduated because I would have totally regretted not taking senior portraits. It was bittersweet to be back on campus. The bitter part was not so fun- so I parked in the new garage ($2 an hour?? I’ll take it)! I didn’t plan on staying more than an hour anyway. So after an hour I head back to my car and insert the ticket into the machine to pay my $2- nope, the machine says “damaged ticket” (ticket is in perfect condition). After about the 4th try, a student passing by tells me I probably have to push the damaged ticket button, ok, so I press it – $16???? Are you kidding me- $16 to park for an hour (I don’t even think I have ever paid that much at the Riverwalk). After the student sees the look on my face, she asks if my phone was anywhere near the ticket. Well yes, in my purse. Apparently, it’s happened to her too before- the phone deactivates the ticket. Thanks for the warning UTSA! Oh well, what can I do right? I’m just glad I wasn’t back in college at the time because $16 is a big deal when you are a broke college kid like I was-lol!
Other than that little hiccup, Madison’s senior session was a blast. Madison’s mom even drove in from Houston that day to help. I was so happy too because you know we always love getting those parent shots. I know that Madison’s mom must have been so proud and will always remember this year’s Mother’s Day. Madison’s commencement ceremony also happened to fall on Mother’s Day!
The famous UTSA fountain in front of the John Peace Library did not disappoint! Even though the water was cold, Madison did not hesitate to jump in there and enjoy it one last time before graduation. Her infectious smile was no match for all the students around her at tables, heads buried in books, studying for finals. I even saw some stop to take a break and watch. I also loved how this girl showed up with props in hand- as you all know, I’m all about props (maybe it’s my theater background). How cute is she with her confetti-filled champagne bottle?? By the way- confetti might be up there with glitter for being the messiest prop so we brought a canvas floor drop for Madison to stand on as she unleashed the confetti. I’m glad we did too because it did not look like there was that much confetti in that small bottle. I love Madison’s surprised smile in those photos. We did bring some orange and blue balloons but there was a little confusion and while trying to untangle the strings, they just flew up into the air. I wish I had a video of our faces as they flew away- I’m pretty sure Madison and I looked like sad 3-year-olds in shock- lol!!
The UTSA sign. Everyone wants a photo op there. When we come to locations that many people want to use, I always think to myself- how can I shoot this to look completely different from everyone else? I wanted to try a night shot so as we wrapped up the session, I asked Madison if she wanted to take one last photo at the sign- she said yes and I was pretty surprised at what we got. I kinda love it, what do you all think? It sure does help to have a gorgeous subject to photograph, I think we could have photographed her all day!
I think I’m kinda loving the UTSA campus (minus the parking incident). I hope that in the future we can photograph more seniors there! Graduates, if you didn’t have time to book portraits before graduation, you still have time. Give us a call, we would love to help you celebrate one of the biggest accomplishments in your life!! Thank you Madison for trusting us with these precious memories, we wish you all the best in your future! You did it, Congrats!!
